Statement Of Faith
Smyrna Church Of Robbins
Smyrna Church of Robbins does not recognize the authority of any other ecclesiastical body, making it independent and a community church. The Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the basis for any statement of faith.
1. THE SCRIPTURES. We believe the Holy Scriptures, closely translated from the original
Hebrew and Greek, were written by men under the inspiration and direction of Almighty
God. We therefore affirm the Bible as the word of God and the only legitimate basis for
our faith, for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” 2 Timothy 3:16
2. THE TRINITY. We believe in one God Almighty, who in the past, present, and future
eternally exists as the Trinity in three persons: God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and
the Holy Spirit.
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” Matthew 28:19
“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your
calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is
above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:4-6
3. GOD THE FATHER. We believe in God the Father Almighty who created the Heaven
and Earth, present from before the beginning of the Earth, and infinitely holy and perfect.
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven
and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands” Acts 17: 24
4. JESUS CHRIST THE SON. We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy
Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, suffered and shed his blood on
the cross, thereby paying the penalty for our sins.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
5. THE HOLY SPIRIT. We believe the Holy Spirit dwells in every individual who accepts
Jesus Christ as his or her personal savior.
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are
changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3: 17-18
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell
in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” Romans
8:9
6. RESURRECTION OF JESUS. We believe that Jesus Christ was bodily raised from the
dead on the third day and that he appeared to witnesses.
“. . .It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right
hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:34
7. ASCENSION OF JESUS. We believe that Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven and is now
seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, and that He will return to gather His
bride the church. We believe that every knee will one day bow to Him and proclaim Him
as Lord.
“And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed
them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and
carried up into heaven.” Luke 24: 50-51
8. SALVATION. We believe that man was created sinless and by virtue of Adam’s
disobedience, sin entered the human race. We believe that the payment of sin is the
shedding of blood and that Jesus Christ satisfied this payment in full for all of us, in
dying on the cross. We believe that God, according to the Holy Scriptures, offers
salvation to any person who accepts this payment on his or her behalf through grace
alone, by faith in this shed blood of Jesus Christ, thus being born again. We believe all
born again persons are eternally secure in Christ, and that every believer will be received
into the presence of God in Heaven upon breathing their last breath on earth. Conversely,
we believe that those not accepting God’s offer of salvation will spend eternity in Hell.
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by
him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”Hebrews 7:25
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” Romans 3: 23
9. REPENTENT BELIEVERS. We believe that none of us are sinless. As Christians it is
our duty to continually turn from our sins, repent, and strive to live the lives that Jesus
Christ meant for us.
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not
deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor
abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards,
nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Corinthians
6:9-10
“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these
are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh
are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions,
heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I
tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things
shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5: 17-21
10. THE RETURN OF CHRIST. We believe, according to the Scriptures, in the sure return
of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that His second coming will be literal, bodily, and personal.
We believe that our blessed hope is that He will come for His bride, the church.
“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for
him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:28
11. SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE. We believe that the only union of marriage accepted by
God is the joining of one man and one woman. Smyrna Church of Robbins does not
recognize the union of same sex marriage as legitimate and will not permit any such
ceremony to be performed on said church property, nor will we condone performance of
such marriage by our pastor.
“And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made
them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall
a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall
be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore
God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Matthew 19: 4-6
12. CHURCH MINISTRIES. We believe that all ministries of the church, paid or unpaid, are
a direct service to God and therefore for the betterment of service of Smyrna Church of
Robbins for spreading of the Good News of the Gospel. To this end, any persons holding
positions of ministry, paid or unpaid, must be in agreement of adherence to Smyrna
Church of Robbins’ Statement of Faith and honor such by their prayers, their presence,
their gifts, and their service.
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as
good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as
the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God
giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be
praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4: 10-11
13. CHRISTIAN LOVE. We believe in following the instruction Jesus gave as to the
importance of firstly, loving God absolutely and in all ways, and secondly, loving our
neighbors as ourselves. We believe in the importance of walking together as a church
family in our love for Jesus Christ and in our love for each other. We believe that all who
believe already and all those curious to learn more about our Lord are welcome at
Smyrna Church of Robbins. We believe in the importance of good works.
“Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou
shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all
thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” Matthew 22: 36-39
“For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink:
I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye
visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous
answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty,
and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked,
and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as
ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
